Scentsy Ranked One of Top Companies in Idaho

Press Release | 11/8/2017

November 8, 2017 -- After only thirteen years in business, Scentsy has cemented itself as one of Idaho’s top companies. For the third year in a row, Scensty an international leader in home décor and personal fragrances, came in at number 15 in the list of Idaho’s Private 100. The list ranks the Gem state’s largest privately held companies.

“What a ride! It is truly amazing how Scentsy has bloomed where we were planted. We love Idaho—the businesses that inspire us, the people who support us and the Consultants and employees who bring life to our story,” said Orville Thompson, Scentsy’s CEO.

Heidi and Orville Thompson launched Scentsy in 2004 using an old, mice-infested 40-foot shipping container as their humble first office. Scentsy’s flagship product line, decorative warmers designed to melt fragrant wax using a lightbulb instead of a wick and flame, quickly attracted a faithful following.

“We knew the products were perfect for direct selling,” said Heidi Thompson, Scentsy’s President. “Scentsy products have to be experienced. A party is the perfect way to share Scentsy.”

As of today, Scentsy has approximately 110,000 Independent sales Consultants sharing Scentsy in eleven countries. More than 1,000 employees work at the home office in Meridian or at the five distribution centers worldwide.

Scentsy has expanded beyond warmers and wax, offering airy diffusers, natural, fragrant oils, portable fragrance products, a laundry and cleaning line, children’s products and a personal care line. Many of the lines, including the soon-to-be launched bath bombs are made on-site in Meridian, Idaho.

This marks the eighth year Scentsy has made the Idaho Private 100 list. The ranking was created to recognize private enterprise and honor privately held Idaho-based companies generating the greatest annual revenue.

Press Release | 1/3/2013

MERIDIAN, Idaho, Jan. 3, 2013 -- Scentsy Fragrance, a growing international leader in fragrance, today announced Violet Leaf as the ScenTrend™ for 2013. Based on trend analysis by fragrance experts at Scentsy and prominent international fragrance houses, the ScenTrend designation identifies the up-and-coming fragrance note which consumers will find in home as well as fine fragrances.

The earthy and herbaceous Violet Leaf fragrance note is extracted from the heart-shaped leaves of the violet plant. Unlike the fragrance of a violet flower which is sweet and powdery, Violet Leaf exudes an organic, green fragrance with a subtle floral undertone and watery accents of melon and cucumber. This fragrance is gentle on the senses, providing tranquil moments of respite and calm.

"In our fast-paced society, people yearn for simple, disconnected moments," said Heidi Thompson, President of Scentsy, Inc. "Violet Leaf's pure expression of nature is the perfect backdrop to unwind and decompress in today's increasingly connected, digital world."

Tom Pastre, President of Creatique, a fragrance industry consulting firm, said naming Violet Leaf as ScenTrend 2013 shows Scentsy's continued commitment to uncovering on-trend perfumery notes. "Violet Leaf is modern, a fresh and soothing representation of nature that is innately appealing," Pastre said. "Uplifting, cool, green, yet warm, earth-born, calming—even a bit mesmerizing. Violet Leaf takes you to a different place, far away from the challenges we face every day."

For fragrance lovers excited to experience Violet Leaf, Scentsy's February 2013 Scent of the Month, Posy Peach, is a fuzzy ripe peach balanced by green, tender tendrils of violet leaf in a fragrance that hints at lazy sunny days. Scentsy's Spring/Summer 2013 Catalog highlights fragrances containing Violet Leaf, and, for those interested in designing their own signature scents with ScenTrend 2013, Violet Leaf will be available as a stand-alone Scentsy Bar—ideal for mixing.

Scentsy Introduces New Brand and Expanded Product Line

Press Release | 1/20/2012

MERIDIAN, Idaho, Jan 20, 2012 -- Scentsy, Inc., a rapidly growing, international party-plan company, today introduced a new brand--Velata, featuring a patent-pending, silicone dish on an electric warmer paired with the world's finest quality Belgian chocolate to create a fun, easy-to-use, and delicious fondue experience.

"Scentsy products are great for bringing people together in a fun, social setting, so it was natural to introduce a complementary brand that makes it easy to have delicious party food in no time at all," said Orville Thompson, CEO of Scentsy, Inc.

"I love the idea that a busy family can enjoy fondue together any night of the week or that a hostess can create an instant party with Velata," said Heidi Thompson, Scentsy's President. "Just microwave the chocolate in its package, pour into the dish, dip your favorite foods in velvety chocolate, and enjoy!"

Scentsy, Inc. executives worked with chocolate experts and manufacturers in Europe to create an extraordinary chocolate experience for customers. Velata fondue warmers use a special silicone dish that prevents heat from escaping, keeping the melted chocolate at the perfect temperature with no stirring required. The dish goes from the refrigerator to the microwave to the dishwasher with ease and eliminates the messy fountain, scorched chocolate, open flame, and complicated instructions commonly associated with a fondue experience.

Velata will be available in North America starting on May 1, 2012. Customers can initially choose from 14 beautifully designed warmers and four types of Belgian chocolate: classic milk chocolate, white chocolate, dark chocolate, and caramel milk chocolate. Velata chocolate comes packaged in a microwavable, six-ounce pouch with a convenient pour spout.

Scentsy, Inc. also announced two product line extensions to its flagship Scentsy Wickless brand. The fragrance products company will now offer Layers by Scentsy, a personal fragrance experience that lets customers build a signature scent using nine personal and laundry care fragrance products. The line extension includes eight new products, plus Scentsy Solid Perfume introduced in 2011. New fragrance products include shower cream, shower gel, body lotion, body butter, body spray, hand cream, Washer Whiffs--a laundry fragrance additive that dissolves in the washing machine, and Dryer Disks--a reusable, anti-static fragrance enhancer.

Layers by Scentsy products are available in six Scentsy fragrances, including Coconut Lemongrass, Luna, Quiver, Love Story, Enchanted Mist, and Sugar Cookie. Customers can choose their favorite fragrances and mix and match personal care and laundry care products to create a fragrance to suit their style.

Scentsy also introduced customizable, print-on-demand, scented greeting cards that can be purchased and mailed through an on-line store called Sincerely Scent. Each card comes with a Scent Spot, a quarter-sized, scented wafer infused with one of 15 fragrances from Scentsy's Favorites Collection. Cards are priced at $2.85 each ($3.82 CAD) including postage.

Layers by Scentsy and Sincerely Scent will be available to customers in North America beginning March 1. Scentsy's new brand and product line extensions are part of its strategy to help Consultants grow their businesses by providing opportunities to sell multiple products and brands to customers using their existing teams and proven systems.

"Scentsy is the first party-plan company to offer its Consultants the opportunity to sell multiple brands in multiple countries using a single global compensation plan and sales organization," said Orville Thompson.

Based on evaluation and trend analysis by fragrance experts at Scentsy and prominent international fragrance houses, the ScenTrend designation identifies the up-and-coming fragrance note for the new year, which consumers will find in home as well as fine fragrances.

A study in contrasts, Pink Pepper's multidimensional nature exudes sweet, floral yet spicy aromas, giving it appeal as both a gourmand and romance fragrance note. Distilled from the rose-hued berries of the Peruvian pepper tree and used as a spice in cooking, Pink Pepper has a dry, fresh scent with hints of angelica and juniper-like notes. This bold yet warm fragrance stimulates renewed energy in any environment.

"Pink Pepper fits the mood of our time," explains Heidi Thompson, President of Scentsy, Inc. "It's a spirited fragrance note that offers inspiration to find adventure, be romantic or simply add a touch of excitement to any aspect of life. We're pleased to highlight Pink Pepper's inspiring personality in Scentsy's home fragrances."

Tom Pastre, President of Creatique, a fragrance industry consulting firm in Cresskill, New Jersey, said selecting a fragrance note of the year shows Scentsy's passion for the art of fragrance creation and perfumery. "Pink Pepper is appropriate for these challenging times because it's uplifting and has a certain optimism to it. It's bold and zesty, but has a warmth that's comforting," said Pastre. "It's the contrasts that make it exciting: feminine and floral, yet sexy and exotic."

Fragrance lovers can experience the contrasts of Pink Pepper in Pixie, Scentsy's February 2012 Scent of the Month. Pixie is a mischievous moonscape of pink pepper, mandarin and heliotrope deepened by exotic teakwood and vanilla oak. Scentsy's Spring/Summer 2012 Catalog highlights fragrances containing Pink Pepper, and for those interested in designing their own signature scents with ScenTrend 2012, Pink Pepper will also be available as a stand-alone Scentsy Bar—ideal for mixing.

Scentsy on Forbes List of Most Promising Companies

Press Release | 12/2/2011

MERIDIAN, Idaho, Dec 01, 2011 -- Forbes Magazine named Scentsy to its 2011 list of America's 100 Most Promising Companies. Scentsy was ranked #66 on the list that features "100 privately held up-and-comers with compelling business models, strong management teams, notable customers, strategic partners and precious investment capital."

Scentsy was the largest company on the list based on revenue and employees, with 2010 revenues of $381 million and an employee base of 750. Scentsy now employs more than 1,000 people in three states and expects revenues in 2011 to exceed $500 million.

Founded in 2004, Scentsy's flagship product is scented, wickless candles heated in decorative ceramic warmers. The warmers use a low-watt bulb so there is no flame, smoke or soot. Independent Consultants sell the flameless candles and other Scentsy fragrance products at home parties, through catalog or basket parties, and online.

"It's an honor to be on Forbes' list of America's 100 Most Promising Companies," said Orville Thompson, Chief Executive Officer and co-owner of Scentsy with his wife Heidi Thompson. "The selection considers not only what we've accomplished, but our potential for continued growth, and the future is bright for Scentsy."

"We have our Consultants and employees to thank for our success. They have stayed focused on providing great quality products and service through every stage of our growth," said Heidi Thompson, President and co-owner of Scentsy.

In 2010, Scentsy launched a line of Scentsy Buddies -- scented, plush animals that appeal to younger family members -- which validated the company's ability to sell a product other than wickless candles through its distribution channel. Recently, Scentsy used its fragrance expertise to introduce solid perfume. It now sells a full line of home fragrance products for the entire family.

Scentsy also continued a series of cause products designed to honor and benefit national charities, resulting in contributions of more than $1.3 million within the last year. Net proceeds from its current cause product, Sasha the Bear, benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities(R) in the U.S. and Canada.

In recognizing Scentsy and other companies, Forbes' list of America's 100 Most Promising Companies took a different approach from other rankings by using sophisticated software to assign an algorithm-derived score to each company it considered.

"Sizing up younger, privately held companies is hard: Their fortunes can change very quickly and there's a dearth of public data," says Forbes Executive Editor Brett Nelson. "We took a more comprehensive approach to evaluate their health and potential."

To sharpen its search, Forbes teamed up with CB Insights, a Manhattan-based data firm that tracks investment in high-growth private companies. CB Insights has developed complex software called Mosaic that mines myriad online sources to come up with one, algorithmically derived score that measures a private company's health. Forbes married Mosaic's data-crunching with its reporting to assemble a list of rising stars with bright growth prospects.

Twice a year, with the help of the company’s Consultants, Scentsy chooses a new cause to support. Scentsy designed the ‘Piece by Piece’ Charitable Cause Warmer, adorned with colorful jigsaw pieces, to honor the mission of Autism Speaks: “Solving the puzzle, piece by piece.” As Autism Awareness Month approaches in April, Scentsy and its Consultants will help Autism Speaks raise awareness for autism and those whose lives are affected by it.

The “Piece by Piece” Charitable Cause Warmer is available until August 31, 2011, and is $35. One hundred percent of the net proceeds from each sale will benefit Autism Speaks, which since 2005 has committed over $160 million to research and developing innovative new resources for families.

“We are pleased to establish a partnership with Scentsy and are grateful for the unique warmer design to raise funds and autism awareness," said Mark Roithmayr, president of Autism Speaks. "One in 110 children and countless family members across the country are impacted by autism, and we hope our combined efforts help continue to shed light on this growing health crisis."

Inc 500 Ranks Scentsy Top Consumer Products and Services Company

Press Release | 8/27/2010

MERIDIAN, Idaho--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Scentsy, Inc., a rapidly growing home fragrance company, has been named the No. 1 fastest-growing consumer products and services company in the country in the 2010 edition of the Inc. 500 list, published by Inc. magazine. Overall, Scentsy was No. 19 on the prestigious list of the fastest-growing private companies in America.

“We knew we were growing at an extraordinary pace, but the Inc. 500 ranking confirms the growth we have achieved is unmatched by all but a handful of companies” .“We knew we were growing at an extraordinary pace, but the Inc. 500 ranking confirms the growth we have achieved is unmatched by all but a handful of companies,” said Heidi Thompson, President and co-owner of Scentsy with her husband Orville. “We are thrilled to be named one of the 20 fastest-growing companies in all of America, and we sincerely commend and thank our outstanding corporate team and our independent party consultants for maintaining the focus on quality, value and service through the challenges of such rapid growth.”

Scentsy earned its ranking on the Inc. 500 for increasing its annual revenues from $2,176,876 in 2006 to $178,375,434 in 2009, a cumulative growth rate of 8,094%. This was the first time Scentsy nominated itself for the list. Incredibly, the company grew at an even higher rate during the previous three-year period (2005-2008). It is notable that only seven companies among the top 200 had higher 2009 sales than Scentsy. The vast majority of companies on the Inc. 500 are much smaller.

In 2004, Scentsy opened its doors as a direct sales company, offering a safe, wickless alternative to burning open flame candles in homes and offices. Customers saw its flameless candles as not just a safer option but as a better option. Scentsy’s success can be attributed to a simple but compelling product line available through more than 70,000 Independent Consultants that sell the scented candles at home parties, through catalog or basket parties as well as online.

“At Scentsy we always strive to bring value to customers by creating and selling high-quality products that warm the heart, enliven the senses, and inspire the soul,” said Orville Thompson, Scentsy Chief Executive Officer and co-owner. “We are humbled at the tremendous customer response and loyalty that our products have generated. And we are honored to be recognized by the Inc. 500, where such major companies as Microsoft and Oracle gained early exposure.”

Npros.com | 7/22/2010

With a 2009 sales figure of $178.4 million, a well known fragrance company that goes by the name of Scentsy has acquired the 64th slot on a Global list of the top 100 direct selling companies in the world, which is compiled annually by Direct Selling News (DSN). DSN is the official publication of the Direct Selling Association, and is generally considered one of the most comprehensive reports in the industry. Listed companies range from annual sales of over $10 billion for first place entry to roughly $67 million for the one hundredth place entry.

Scentsy began operations in 2004 with its wickless candles that offer an alternative to the standard open flame archetype. Scentsy Mentioned in Idaho Statesman

IdahoStatesman.com | 8/12/2009

It's an interesting concept: wickless scented candles that don't use flame, but rather melt from the heat of a 25-watt bulb in a decorative candle warmer. Even without a salesperson's insistence that "scents bring people together," you might be inclined to make a purchase, just to see what all the fuss is about.

This reaction is largely responsible for Meridian company Scentsy's explosive growth.

Four years ago, Scentsy operated in a 40-foot, air-conditioned ocean-freight container on a sheep farm. In five years, it has grown more than 300 percent annually. Its revenue was $109 million in the year that ended June 30.
